A pair of entrepreneurial wizards are about to transform a vacant downtown building into a pinball arcade, their first step in a quest to create a family entertainment mecca on the Chicago Street corridor.

Matt and Chris Czarnowski, part of The Steelman Group that owns three buildings in downtown Joliet, plan to launch Chicago Street Pinball Arcade at 215 N. Chicago St. this summer….

Zen Studios‘ has released the latest version of their wildly popular Star Wars pinball franchise.

When originally released Star Wars Pinball came with three tables to choose from, Empire Strikes Back, The Clone Wars, and Bobba Fett.  Later Zen updated the tables to include Return of the Jedi, Starfighter Assault, and Darth Vader bringing them to 6 tables, but this new one is the most exciting of all.

The new Heroes Within table will actually feature four new tables as opposed to three in a pack.  These table packs include both good and evil characters to the tables the most popular to date is the droid duo C-3PO and R2-D2, and of course the most popular space smuggler of all time , Han Solo and his side kick Chewbacca is getting their on table.

Zen states that they are going to offer a total of ten tables in the game when it is released in spring of this year.

One of the requests we get all the time is for the pinball machines, there will always be an audience for them.  Now I am happy to say that the pinball machine is making a comeback in the arcade. Pinball games has been a mainstay in any arcade since their inception in the 1930’s and fans have kept the flippers flapping since then.

I look forward to what the new lines of pinball games bring.  One of my favorites from last year was Avengers Pinball from the wildly popular movie of the same name from Stern Pinball.  This game brings all the excitement of the movie and loads it into a really exciting game.

Stern Pinball has also announced a new line of Ford Mustang Pinball games that are expected to be released in just a few months. The games incorporate a mix of classic pinball features and cutting-edge technology to let players race with some of the greatest Mustangs of all time and build a dream collection as they progress through the game.  The playfield invites players to go drag racing, rallying, drifting and road racing as they string a series of shots together in pursuit of a high score.

And there is always a cache of older models waiting to be put back in circulation as well, right now the National Pinball Museum is auctioning of some classics with the first batch of 75 pinball machines, some dating from the 1930s, sold  through Morphy Auctions in central Pennsylvania in February. The more vintage of the collection went for $4,000.00.

It seemed like the classic pinball game was doomed with the audience home systems eventually closed the arcades and now smartphones let us play wherever and whenever we want. And oddly that seems like they are traveling right back into the arcade.  Now the pinball machine is making a comeback and the gamers couldn’t be happier.

When people come into the arcade they often look for foosball, air hockey, or pinball, three favorites that never loss their appeal and we can always direct them to the fun.  I thought it didn’t get any better than that until I saw the iHockey Pub.

iHockey Pub

iHockey Pub

Like air hockey you challenge your friends and score as many goals as you can with this exciting competition game, but instead of the traditional paddles you use pinball flippers and a steel pinball to make the action happen.  One thing that makes this game so unique is the multiple balls in play, when the game starts no less than five balls hit the “ice”, this keeps the action going.

The iHockey Pub is a unique mix between foosball, hockey, and pinball, all combined in one great looking and great playing game. So it offers the fun of all games wrapped up in one neat little package.

I want this game so bad! When I first saw it I was drawn right to it and play time on it zips by so fast you find yourself just feeding quarters in to continue playing the game after game.  It is that addictive.

This is on my wish list of games to get as I am sure that it would keep the gamers coming back over and over.
